Two Community Vigilantes Killed in Plateau Night Attack

Armed Fulani Ethnic Militias have killed two Christians local vigilantes in Ta-Hoss community of Riyom Local Government Area, deepening concerns over persistent insecurity and killings of Christians in rural parts of Plateau State Nigeria’s Middle Belt.

The attack occurred on Wednesday 10th June 2026 night at about 10 p.m. while the victims were on community patrol, residents and local leaders said.

The deceased, identified as Davou Dalyop Patu, 48, and Dalyop Zaram, 38, were all devoted Christians and members of a local vigilante group that supports efforts to safeguard residents from recurring attacks and criminal activities in the area.

Community leader Livinus Badung confirmed the incident, describing the victims as dedicated volunteers who devoted themselves to protecting lives and property in Ta-Hoss and surrounding communities.

“The community is devastated by this loss,” Badung said. “They were committed men who sacrificed their time and energy for the safety of our people.”

The killings have heightened tension across Riyom, a local government area that has experienced repeated security challenges in recent years. Residents expressed fears that the latest attack could further undermine confidence in local security arrangements and expose vulnerable communities to greater risks.

Reacting to the incident, Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), condemned the attack and extended condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Ta-Hoss.

He called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect rural communities and ensure that those responsible for the killings are identified and prosecuted.

“The continued targeting of vulnerable communities is deeply troubling,” Tengwong said. “Authorities must take decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent further loss of life.”

As of the time of filing this report, Captain Polycarp Oteh, spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace, had not responded to requests for comment regarding the attack.

The latest killings underscore ongoing security concerns in Plateau State, where community-based vigilante groups often play a frontline role in protecting villages amid recurring violence and threats from armed Islamic groups.

Security agencies have yet to announce any arrests or identify suspects linked to the attack.
