Over one thousand members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kasuru ward in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in support of Hon. Mrs. Sarah Bali’s chairmanship ambition ahead of the 2026 local government elections.

The formal declaration and defection event took place on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Government Secondary School, Gawam. The ceremony drew a large crowd, including party stalwarts, traditional rulers, women’s associations, youth groups, and community leaders from across Bassa. The atmosphere was marked by chants, songs, and displays of party colors, as new members pledged allegiance to the APC.

Before the event, Hon. Bali visited traditional rulers in her constituency to seek their blessings and guidance. The First-Class King of Kides, His Royal Highness Emmanuel Elkanah Caleb, received her at his palace and commended her for what he described as a respectful and culturally rooted approach. He encouraged her to remain committed to service and to uphold the values of unity and respect within the community.

“This visit reflects humility and acknowledgment of traditional institutions,” the monarch said. “When leaders consult and listen, they foster understanding and harmony among the people.”

During the declaration, the APC Ward Chairman, Mr. Hosea Simon Sule, formally received the defectors into the party. He stated that the defection was a result of growing confidence in the leadership and vision of the APC in the local government. Sule emphasized that the move signaled a shift in grassroots political alignment ahead of the 2026 elections and expressed optimism that the unity of party members would enhance development efforts across Bassa.

Hon. Sarah Bali, addressing supporters, unveiled her “People’s Mandate” — an eight-point agenda focused on good governance, infrastructural renewal, and inclusive community development. She said her plan was to deliver tangible results through collaboration, transparency, and accountability.

Her proposed agenda includes rehabilitating rural roads, maintaining drainage systems, and completing abandoned community projects to enhance access and mobility. She also highlighted economic empowerment as a key pillar of her program, promising to support small businesses, encourage entrepreneurship, and create job opportunities, particularly for women and youth.

On education and healthcare, Bali pledged to improve the standard of public schools and primary health centers by working with state and federal agencies. She also underscored the importance of enhancing local security through partnerships with traditional and security councils, ensuring safety and peace among diverse communities in the area.

Other points in her agenda include a focus on internally generated revenue to finance development projects, improving staff welfare in the local government, strengthening accountability in governance, and instituting a reward system for individuals and communities contributing positively to Bassa’s progress.

“I stand before you, deeply honored by your trust and support,” she said. “This is a collective effort. Together, we can build a Bassa where progress reaches every community and governance truly reflects the will of the people.”
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Abdullahi Yusuf Incham, popularly known as Oga Perfect, who is aspiring for a seat in the House of Representatives, described Mrs. Bali as a capable leader with a record of commitment to service. He stated that her ambition aligns with the aspirations of many residents who desire inclusive leadership that addresses grassroots challenges.

Incham, while commenting on his own political pursuit, said he shared similar goals of ensuring effective representation, empowerment programs, and policies that address the needs of the common people. He added that collective efforts among credible leaders within the APC would drive positive transformation across Bassa.
The event concluded with prayers offered by Christian and Muslim leaders for peace, wisdom, and divine favor for Hon. Bali and her campaign team. As the crowd dispersed, groups of supporters continued celebrating, while local musicians performed songs reflecting themes of unity and renewal.

Observers at the scene noted the high turnout and level of enthusiasm among party members and residents. For many in attendance, the gathering marked the beginning of an intense political season in Bassa Local Government Area as parties and candidates prepare for the 2026 local government elections.
