Amnesty International has urged the Nigerian government to immediately investigate a viral video showing children and teenagers participating in marching drills while chanting slogans calling for attacks on people in Enugu and Jos.
Amnesty international Nigeria made this known on Monday 26th October,2026 through it official Facebook page.
The organisation said the video showed minors participating in drills led by adult coordinators wearing uniforms of Jama’atu Izalatu Bidi’a wa’iqamatus-Sunnah (JIBWIS) in northern Nigeria.
According to Amnesty International, the participants were heard chanting slogans demanding AK-47 rifles to attack “infidels” on a Sunday in Enugu and Jos.
The organisation described the slogans as an example of children being exposed to hateful rhetoric and violence, warning that such activities could deepen hostility and encourage violence.
It called on the authorities to independently investigate the organisers, establish the source and location of the footage, and examine the content of the drills, including the slogans and curricula used in the youth programmes.
Amnesty International also urged the government to ensure that children involved in the programmes are protected from radicalisation and provided with appropriate psychological and educational support.
It further called for accountability for any individuals or religious groups found to be using children to promote intolerance or undermine religious freedom.
The organisation said protecting children from hateful rhetoric, militarised drills and extremist indoctrination was a state obligation under national and international law.
It cited the Child Rights Act and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which provide frameworks for protecting children from violence, exploitation and harmful activities.
Amnesty International warned that using youth programmes or religious training groups to promote hostile ideologies could threaten public safety and undermine freedom of religion.
