The Student Union Government (SUG) of Plateau State University (PLASU) marked its 2026 SUG Day with a vibrant ceremony that also featured the investiture of new patrons, drawing notable dignitaries, university officials, and students to the Social Sciences Auditorium on April 10.
The event opened with a welcome address by the SUG President, Comrade Elisha Davou, who highlighted key challenges facing students, including water scarcity, inconsistent electricity supply, and inadequate transportation. He assured attendees that his administration remains committed to improving students’ welfare and living conditions across the campus.
The ceremony attracted high-profile guests, including Rt. Honourable Dewan Gabriel, Chief Kefas Ropshik, and Honourable David Kwallu. Also in attendance were senior university officials such as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Associate Professor Keziah Ayuba; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Galadima; and the newly appointed Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Rahila Datong.
A major highlight of the occasion was the formal investiture of new SUG patrons, conducted by Professor Galadima. In their acceptance remarks, the newly inducted patrons expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged their commitment to supporting the institution and advancing student development. They encouraged students to remain focused, disciplined, and dedicated to their academic and personal growth.
Delivering a motivational address, Chief Kefas Ropshik urged students to embrace creativity and self-reliance in building opportunities for themselves. Sharing his personal journey, he recounted the challenges he overcame to achieve success, inspiring students to remain resilient in the face of adversity. He, alongside other patrons, also presented monetary gifts to selected individuals who contributed to the event’s success.
The celebration concluded with an award presentation ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions within the university community.
Overall, the event provided a platform for reflection, recognition, and renewed commitment to student welfare, leaving attendees inspired to pursue excellence both academically and beyond.
