The management of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging an increase in tuition fees for the 2025/2026 academic session.
In an internal memorandum signed by the Registrar, Yakubu F. Ayuba, and dated 8th October 2025, the University stated clearly that tuition fees for all students both new and returning have remained unchanged since 2022, contrary to widespread speculation.
The Registrar explained that the confusion over fee adjustments likely arose from the introduction of a ₦5,000 ICT charge and the existing ₦10,000 bench fee, both of which are separate from tuition fees.
According to the memo, the ICT charge was introduced to support the provision of digital and internet services for students, including access to free Wi-Fi across the campus. The new charge was approved by the University’s Governing Council, with student leadership involved in the decision-making process.
The ₦10,000 bench fee, on the other hand, has been in place since 2021, when it was approved as a uniform rate to replace arbitrary departmental charges. Initially applicable only to final-year students, the fee has now been extended with council approval of 22 additional departments whose academic activities include field trips, excursions, and practical productions.
Ayuba further encouraged students to take advantage of the Federal Government’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to ease the financial burden associated with tuition and other approved fees.
He reiterated that despite the country’s economic challenges and inflation, PLASU remains committed to providing affordable and quality education, while ensuring that essential services required for academic excellence are adequately funded.
