NELFUND Opens Student Loan Application Portal for 2025/2026 Academic Session

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially opened its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session, offering financial assistance to students in tertiary institutions across the country.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the application window will run from Thursday, October 23, 2025, to Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The agency encouraged fresh students to apply using their admission numbers or JAMB registration numbers in place of matriculation numbers, noting that this flexibility will enable newly admitted students to access funds before completing full registration.

NELFUND also appealed to tertiary institutions to show understanding regarding registration and fee payment deadlines for students whose loan applications are still being processed.

“Institutional authorities are encouraged to show understanding in enforcing registration and fee payment deadlines for applicants awaiting loan disbursement,” the statement read.

It further advised institutions that have not yet commenced their 2025/2026 academic sessions to formally notify NELFUND by submitting their approved academic calendars. This, the agency said, would help in scheduling disbursement timelines and ensuring that no student is left behind.

“NELFUND appeals to all tertiary institutions to consider temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are being processed to ensure that no student loses access to education due to financial constraints,” the statement added.

The student loan scheme, established under the Access to Higher Education Act, aims to provide interest-free loans to students to cover tuition and related costs, in line with the Federal Government’s goal of expanding access to higher education.
