Security operatives on Wednesday July 1st night shot dead one suspected gunman and repelled an attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru,Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, after armed assailants attempted to breach the institute’s security perimeter during a gun battle.
The attack occurred at about 11 p.m. when the assailants reportedly advanced towards the institute but were met with heavy resistance from security personnel, forcing them to flee.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Institute’s Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Osime Samuel, said the attackers engaged security operatives in a fierce exchange of gunfire before retreating.
He said one of the attackers was killed during the operation, while several others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
According to the statement, the gunmen failed to gain access to the institute, and all participants of the Senior Executive Course, staff, residents and facilities remained unharmed.
“The attackers failed to penetrate the Institute’s security perimeter. All participants of the Senior Executive Course, members of staff, residents and facilities remain safe and secure,” the statement said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, while security agencies have yet to announce any arrests or identify the attackers.
