Fulani Herdsmen Cut Teenage Girl’s Hand In Kaduna Over Rejected Marriage Proposal

A 15-year-old girl, Endurance Sabon, has suffered a brutal attack in Goska community, Kaninkon Ward, Kafanchan, Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, after her family rejected a forced marriage proposal allegedly made by  Fulani herdsmen.

According to a family member who spoke with Journalist on Saturday, the attackers first approached Endurance’s mother while she was working with the girl on the family farm on Friday morning. The men reportedly praised the teenager’s beauty and demanded that she be given to one of them in marriage, a request the mother dismissed as a joke.

Later that evening, around 6:30 p.m., as Endurance, her mother and other relatives waited for a motorcycle to take them home, the men allegedly ambushed them after trailing them through the bush. The attackers reportedly used a torchlight to identify their target, seized Endurance and dragged her into the forest, where they inflicted a deep cut on her hand.

The injured girl was initially taken to the General Hospital in Kafanchan, then referred to a private facility before being transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

The family said five suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack, noting that the men are known in the community and live close to the farm. The family has appealed to the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to ensure the suspects are prosecuted, provide medical assistance for the victim and address the worsening security situation in the area.

Residents of Goska community say the incident has intensified fears over insecurity, forced marriages and violent attacks, which they describe as persistent threats to their safety.
