BREAKING: Fresh Bandit Attacks Hit Oke-agi and Ilai, Several Killed and Kidnapped in Mopamuro LGA, Kogi State

Panic spread across parts of Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State in the early hours of Sunday, December 14, 2025, following simultaneous bandit attacks on Oke-agi and Ilai communities.

The attacks reportedly occurred at about 4:00 a.m., leaving several people killed, others injured, and some abducted.

According to confirmed reports, armed bandits struck two locations almost at the same time and operated for over one hour before distress calls were eventually received from affected communities.

In the first incident, Jamroro settlement, located between Oke-agi and Takete Isao, was attacked. The settlement, largely inhabited by Tiv people, recorded casualties as two persons were killed, while three others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

The second attack took place at a Bassa community near Ilai Grammar School, less than one kilometre from Ilai town. One person was reportedly killed during the raid, while three others were kidnapped by the attackers.

The incidents were officially confirmed by the Chairman of Mopamuro Local Government Area and traditional authorities, including the local authorities of Oke-agi and Ilai, who were said to be with the victims at the hospital as of the time of this report.

Community sources expressed serious concern over the delayed response, noting that the attackers operated freely for more than an hour before help was alerted.

Residents have renewed calls for urgent and decisive security intervention, warning that fear continues to grow as coordinated attacks become more frequent across the area.
