Arm Fulani Ethnic Militias launched a predawn assault on Ra Kung village in Ropp District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State Nigeria, leaving one resident critically injured and destroying more than 15 hectares of farmland, authorities said Friday.
The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Friday 24 April 2026 when armed assailants stormed the quiet farming community, unleashing chaos before retreating. Residents reported widespread destruction of valuable cash crops, devastating local livelihoods already strained by rising food insecurity.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Jos the Plateau State Capital. The group’s National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, condemned the assault as a calculated act of violence against peaceful residents.
According to BYM, the injured victim is receiving urgent medical care, while another individual has been reported missing following the invasion.
“This is not just an attack on people, but on their survival,” Tengwong said, noting that the deliberate destruction of farmlands deepens hardship for affected families.
The association warned that the incident reflects a troubling pattern of sustained attacks targeting indigenous communities efforts, they are aimed at displacing residents, crippling the local economy, and instilling fear.
BYM called on security agencies to track down and prosecute those responsible, warning that continued inaction would only embolden perpetrators. The group also urged government authorities at all levels to strengthen protection for vulnerable communities across Barkin Ladi and beyond.
Additionally, BYM appealed to humanitarian organizations to provide immediate relief, including medical assistance and support for agricultural recovery.
Tensions remain high in the area as residents grapple with loss and uncertainty, once again highlighting the fragile security situation in parts of Plateau State.
