The Berom Youths Moulders Association, has condemned the alleged killing of two youths by the Nigerian Army personnel.
The incident reportedly occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Gwa-Wereng, Rim Ward, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
The victims were identified as Jeremiah Samuel and Paul, who the association alleged were shot by soldiers during an incident that has left residents shocked and mourning.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Comr. Vincent Caleb Alamba, the BYM called for a transparent, impartial and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The association said the incident had further heightened fear and tension in Riyom, coming shortly after an attack in Jol community that reportedly killed three people.
According to the BYM, residents had been expecting authorities to thoroughly investigate the Jol attack and apprehend those responsible for the killings, which it said were allegedly carried out by armed attackers from the Mahanga axis.
The group expressed concern that the alleged killing of the two youths had added to the community’s sense of insecurity and renewed calls for accountability.
The BYM urged the Federal Government, Plateau State Government, Nigerian Army leadership and other relevant security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and establish what led to the deaths.
It further called for anyone found responsible to be held accountable in accordance with the law, while urging authorities to strengthen the protection of law-abiding residents across Riyom Local Government Area.
“The lives of our youths matter,” the group said, stressing the need for justice and equal protection of citizens under the law.
