The aspirant for the Plateau State House of Assembly Mangu North East seat Honourable Sodangi Muhammed Hashim,has officially announced his withdrawal from the race, citing the need to prioritize unity and collective progress.
In a statement released on Wednesday to his supporters and the wider constituency, Sodangi said his decision followed “extensive consultations with leaders, stakeholders, my community, and the Pyam Chiefdom,” emphasizing that the move was made in the broader interest of peace and cohesion across the constituency.
The aspirant, who had earlier maintained a firm stance against stepping down, clarified that his decision was not borne out of pressure or weakness but from a deeper sense of leadership responsibility.
“Leadership is not only about standing firm—it is also about listening, understanding, and making difficult decisions in the collective interest of the people,” he stated.
Hashim expressed deep appreciation to his supporters, acknowledging their loyalty, sacrifices, and unwavering belief in his candidacy throughout the campaign period.
“To my teeming supporters—your commitment has been inspiring. I remain with you in all conditions and will never forget your support,” he said.
Despite stepping down, Hashim reaffirmed his continued commitment to the development and unity of Mangu North East, noting that his political journey and service to the people are far from over.
“This is not the end of our journey, but the beginning of a new chapter,” he added.
His withdrawal is expected to reshape the political dynamics in the constituency ahead of the forthcoming elections in Plateau State.
