The Plateau State Government has eased curfew restrictions in Jos North Local Government Area, signaling cautious progress toward stability following recent violence in the Angwan Rukuba community.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, announced that the curfew will now run from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily, beginning Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Residents will be free to move and conduct lawful activities between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
The adjustment comes after what authorities described as “relative peace” in the area, days after attacks that heightened tensions and triggered stricter restrictions.
Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, according to the statement, approved the relaxation following consultations with security agencies. He also directed law enforcement to strictly enforce the revised curfew to safeguard lives and property and prevent a resurgence of violence.
Despite the eased restrictions, the government urged residents to remain vigilant, comply fully with security directives, and avoid movement during curfew hours. Citizens were also encouraged to cooperate with security agencies and provide credible information that could support ongoing efforts to maintain peace.
The curfew adjustment marks a delicate step toward normalcy in Jos North, an area that has grappled with recurring security challenges. Authorities say the situation will continue to be closely monitored, with further decisions dependent on developments on the ground.
