A Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos has fixed July 1 and 2, 2026, for the commencement of the substantive hearing in the high-profile Angwan Rukuba killing case that claimed atleast 30 lives and left several others injured in Jos North Local Government Area.
The court will hear the case against five suspects accused of involvement in the deadly attack that shook the Angwan Rukuba community and heightened concerns over recurring violence in Plateau State.
At Friday’s proceedings, the court handled pre-trial applications and case management procedures ahead of the main trial. The defendants, facing charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, terrorism, culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and unlawful arms dealing, all pleaded not guilty.
Leading the prosecution team, Plateau State Attorney General, Barrister Philemon Dafi, informed the court that the Ministry of Justice had complied with all legal requirements by filing and serving necessary documents on the defence counsel.
The prosecution subsequently urged the presiding judge, Justice Gidelia Fomyon, to adopt its submissions and issue the required case management report in line with legal procedures. The judge granted the request and scheduled May 26, 2026, for the official report on the completed case management process.
Counsel to the defendants also confirmed compliance with all court directives, stating that responses had been duly filed and that the accused persons were prepared to open their defence when the trial begins.
In her ruling, Justice Fomyon held that all parties had satisfactorily complied with the provisions governing pre-trial procedures. She thereafter adjourned the matter to May 26 for the formal adoption of the case management report before fixing July 1 and 2 for definite hearing and witness testimonies.
The scheduled hearing is expected to mark a major phase in the prosecution of one of Plateau State’s most closely watched criminal cases, as families of victims and residents await justice over the deadly Angwan Rukuba attack.
