At least 13 people including three pregnant women, children and elderly residents, were killed in a late-night attack on Ngbra-Zongo village in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
The attack occurred on Thursday night 7th May 2026, when suspected arm Fulani Ethnic Militias stormed the village and launched coordinated gun and machete attacks on innocent residents who were reportedly asleep in their homes.
Local sources said the assailants invaded the community under the cover of darkness, shooting indiscriminately and attacking villagers with machetes, leaving several people dead and others critically injured.
Ten other persons survived the attack with varying degrees of injuries, including gunshot wounds and machete cuts. A pregnant woman was also among the injured survivors receiving treatment in the hospital.
The latest killings have intensified fears among residents of Bassa Local Government Area, where communities have repeatedly faced deadly attacks that have displaced families, disrupted farming activities and heightened insecurity across rural settlements.
As of the time of filling this report security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
