What should have marked a hopeful step toward the future has turned into a nightmare for a young Plateau indigene, Nanmwa Shagaya, who was abducted by bandits shortly after sitting for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
Nanmwa, a native of Nagane community in Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State Nigeria, was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday 19th April 2026 while returning from Bokkos.
His abduction has cast a shadow of fear and grief over his community, where he is widely known as the youth leader of COCIN LCC Nagane.
Residents describe him as a committed and selfless young man, deeply involved in community and church activities. “He is a responsible youth with promise,” a community member said, expressing anguish over the incident.
Sources close to the family revealed that the abductors have contacted relatives, demanding a ransom of ₦20 million for his release. The demand has further heightened anxiety among family members and residents, many of whom say the amount is far beyond their reach.
The route between Bokkos and Langtang South, where the incident reportedly occurred, has in recent times been plagued by insecurity, with frequent reports of attacks and abductions.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from security agencies regarding the incident. Meanwhile, community leaders and residents are appealing to government authorities and security operatives to act swiftly to secure Shagaya’s safe return.
For many in Nagane, what began as a journey toward academic advancement has become a painful reminder of the growing insecurity affecting everyday life in Plateau State.
