U.S lawmaker raises alarm over attacks on Christians in Plateau

A United States of America lawmaker, Anna Paulina Luna, has raised concerns over recent attacks on Christian communities in Plateau State Nigeria’s Middle Belt, alleging that civilians remain under serious threat.

Luna made the remarks in a post on her official X  account on Friday 25th September 2026, where she tagged U.S Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S National Security Adviser Michael Waltz, calling for action over the violence.

The U.S representative alleged that armed groups had attacked Christian communities across Plateau State, while claiming that Nigerian security forces were struggling to contain the violence line of attack.

“Hundreds of Fulani ethnic militia terrorists descended on Christian communities across Plateau State,” Luna wrote, according to reports of her post.

She further said that a pastor and his church secretary were shot dead while travelling to church, while five Christians were ambushed in a vehicle.

Luna also says that a civilian guard was killed outside his home and that a man and his son were beaten and left critically injured.

The lawmaker questioned whether security warnings issued before some of the incidents had been adequately acted upon.

Her comments came amid renewed security concerns in Plateau and other parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt, with recent reports also involving attacks and abductions in the country.

Luna wrote that the situation “needs to be stopped” while appealing to senior U.S officials to take note of the reported violence.
