Troops Smash Bandits’ Hideouts in Taraba, Recover Ammunition and Motorcycle

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully dislodged bandits’ hideouts and recovered arms during a clearance operation in Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas of Taraba State.

Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, said in a statement on October 5, 2025, that the operation,code named Operation Lafiya Nakowa was launched following credible intelligence on bandit activities and farmland destruction in the affected areas.

According to Muhammad, troops made contact with the criminals in Tarhembe and Tornyi, forcing them to flee under heavy fire. Items recovered include four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, and a motorcycle.

He added that another team cleared several suspected hideouts across Ussa LGA, destroying the camps to prevent future use by bandits.

Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops’ gallantry and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He also urged residents to continue providing credible information to aid ongoing operations.
