President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday 27th October met with Nigeria’s newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa Abuja.
The military leaders arrived at the Villa’s forecourt around 4 p.m. in a convoy led by a green Toyota Land Cruiser and a black Mercedes van.
Those in attendance included the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Maj-Gen. W. Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral I. Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj-Gen. E.A.P. Undiendeye.
The meeting came three days after President Tinubu announced sweeping changes in the nation’s military hierarchy as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President appointed Lt-Gen. Oluyede to replace General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff.
Other appointments include Maj-Gen. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Aneke as Chief of Air Staff. Maj-Gen. Undiendeye retained his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
The President commended the outgoing service chiefs for their patriotic service and dedication to national security, expressing “profound appreciation” for their leadership.
He charged the new military heads to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces.
