The Joint Union of Academic Staff of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions (JUASPTI) has suspended its indefinite strike following an agreement with the Plateau State Government on the implementation of the 25 and 35 percent CONPCASS salary structure.
The union announced the decision in a statement dated May 17, 2026, signed by its Chairman, Comrade Cirfat Yaknan Bulus, and Secretary, Comrade Dakyen Mark Makmis, directing members to resume work immediately.
JUASPTI had commenced the strike on April 30, 2026, to press for the implementation of the revised salary table for academic staff in state-owned tertiary institutions across Plateau State.
According to the statement, the suspension followed negotiations between the union and the government, which culminated in an agreement signed by both parties on Sunday after discussions on the modalities for implementation.
“Sequel to this, the indefinite strike is hereby suspended. Members are hereby directed to resume work with immediate effect as we look forward to the implementation of the agreement,” the union stated.
The union also appreciated members for their support and commitment throughout the industrial action, assuring them that all aspects of the agreement would be pursued to ensure improved welfare for staff.
The suspension of the strike is expected to restore academic activities in the affected tertiary institutions after weeks of disruption.
