The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday 18th May 2026 has granted bail to detained Nigerian blogger and activist, Justice Mark Chidiebere, widely known as “Justice Crack,” following days of legal drama and growing public concern over his continued detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The ruling comes after an earlier bail application collapsed amid disagreements within the defence team over courtroom representation during proceedings before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court.
Justice Crack’s detention had sparked reactions from civil society groups and supporters, particularly after allegations of torture and claims of rights violations surfaced during the course of the case.
Following the withdrawal of the initial application, the defence team returned to court with a fresh bail request, which was subsequently granted.
Justice Crack was abducted by The Nigeria Army for exposing the leaving conditions of their junior officers.
Details of the bail conditions were not immediately disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
Human rights advocates and supporters who monitored the proceedings welcomed the court’s decision, describing it as a significant step toward upholding due process and safeguarding constitutional rights.
The case has continued to attract public attention amid wider debates over freedom of expression, digital activism, and the treatment of government critics in Nigeria.
