Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has formally welcomed 4,715 newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic year, urging them to pursue their studies with commitment, clarity of purpose, and discipline.
Addressing the freshers shortly after they took their matriculation oath at the University’s 600-seat lecture theatre, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shedrack Best, congratulated them on securing admission, describing the process as highly competitive.
Professor Best disclosed that the University received 13,234 applications, out of which only 4,715 candidates were admitted into its 12 faculties. He noted that the new students reflect broad national representation, coming from 33 states and 234 local government areas across the country — a testament to PLASU’s growing reputation nationwide.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted key developments recorded by the institution from 2024 to date, including the expansion of academic programmes approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and improvements in academic facilities.
Looking ahead, he announced that PLASU plans to introduce additional faculties and programmes in the 2026/2027 session, including the Faculties of Communication and Computing, as well as new courses in Allied Health Sciences, Education, and Quantity Surveying.
Professor Best advised the new students to approach their studies with determination, stressing the importance of discipline, consistent class attendance, and academic seriousness.
Ahead of the matriculation ceremony, PLASU held an orientation programme to acquaint students with security tips, registration guidelines, academic regulations, counselling services, and the consequences of examination malpractice.
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the students to make the most of the University’s supportive learning environment and the expanding academic opportunities available to them.
