Plateau State University, Bokkos, has cancelled its ongoing process for appointing a new Registrar and ordered a fresh recruitment exercise.
The decision was contained in an internal memorandum issued by the university’s Office of the Registrar Yakubu Ayuba on Friday, August 14, 2026, following a special meeting of the Governing Council held on Thursday, August 13 2026.
The Governing Council cancelled the appointment process, which began on June 10, after reviewing a report by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.
According to the memorandum, the selection process for a substantive Registrar could not be concluded because of a hitch that the Council said could have undermined the integrity of the exercise and the university.
The Council subsequently directed the university to readvertise the Registrar’s position and complete a fresh appointment process within three months.
To provide sufficient time for the new recruitment exercise, the Council approved a three-month extension of the incumbent Registrar’s tenure, from August 29 to November 28, 2026.
The university, however, said candidates who had already been shortlisted and invited for interviews would not be required to reapply for the position.
The Council assured the university community that the fresh recruitment exercise would follow due process and be conducted to ensure that the most suitable candidate emerges as the next Registrar.
The decision is expected to provide the institution with additional time to conduct a new selection process after the previous exercise was discontinued over concerns surrounding its integrity.
