The Plateau State Football Association (PFA) has announced that the 2025 Governor’s Cup final will take place in Bokkos Local Government Area on July 19 as originally planned, describing the decision as a demonstration of solidarity with communities affected by recent violence.
The decision followed a consultative meeting between the PFA leadership and the Executive Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, alongside members of the council’s management team, according to a statement issued on Monday by the association’s Chairman, Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande.

The association said it remained committed to the scheduled venue despite the recent attacks that claimed lives in Bokkos, noting that violence should not be allowed to disrupt normal life or weaken the resilience of the people.
“The decision to proceed with the final in Bokkos is a deliberate demonstration of solidarity with the resilient people of the Local Government Area and the entire Plateau State,” the statement said.
The PFA described football as a powerful platform for promoting peace, unity and social cohesion, adding that hosting the final in Bokkos would reinforce a message of hope, resilience and collective resolve in the face of insecurity.
The association called on the chairmen of all 17 local government areas in Plateau State, members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, security agencies, football stakeholders, youth organisations and the public to attend the event in support of the people of Bokkos.
According to the statement, the Governor’s Cup final is expected to serve not only as the climax of the football competition but also as a symbol of the state’s commitment to peace, unity and recovery.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 2:00 p.m. on July 19, 2026, at the Bokkos Township Stadium in Bokkos Local Government Area.
The PFA concluded by urging residents to remain united, stressing that the tournament represents a shared commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous and resilient Plateau State.
