Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to unite against insecurity and division.
Mutfwang gave the assurance on Sunday 20th September at the 2026 Plateau Annual Convention of the General Council of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, North East Zone, held at the church’s Jos District Headquarters in Gyel, Jos South Local Government Area.
The governor said his administration would continue to use every lawful means at its disposal to confront banditry, criminality and other security threats across the state.
“I cannot abandon my responsibility of securing the people of Plateau State. We will protect our people with all that we have, within the ambit of the law,” Mutfwang said.
He acknowledged the security challenges confronting Plateau, saying his government was working with relevant security agencies to strengthen measures aimed at confronting perpetrators of violence and restoring lasting peace.
Mutfwang also urged citizens to reject violence and the “pull-him-down” mentality, stressing that the collective strength of Plateau people was essential to overcoming the challenges facing the state.
He particularly called on Christian leaders to rise above divisions and promote unity, peace and reconciliation, urging them to reject bitterness, unforgiveness, arrogance and other attitudes capable of weakening the Church.
The governor said his participation in politics was driven by a desire to serve God and humanity, adding that his administration remained focused on changing the negative narrative about Plateau while pursuing development and improving citizens’ welfare.
The convention, themed “Breaking Barriers into Your Next Level,” also featured commendations for the governor from the former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Nigeria and guest speaker, who praised his commitment to protecting lives and property.
Rev. Jacob S. Langs, Executive Council member representing the North East Zone, also thanked Mutfwang for attending the convention and acknowledged his contributions to the development of Plateau State and the Assemblies of God Nigeria.
The convention ended with a donation by Governor Mutfwang to support widows, youth entrepreneurship initiatives and the activities of the convention.
According to the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, PhD, the gesture further demonstrated the administration’s commitment to the welfare of vulnerable residents and inclusive governance.
