The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has paid glowing tribute to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd.), describing him as a gallant and patriotic son of the Middle Belt whose career epitomized loyalty, courage, and professionalism in service to Nigeria.
The Forum also congratulated Major General Waidi Shaibu from Kogi State on his appointment as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS), calling it a “well-deserved recognition” of excellence and dedication to national service.
A Distinguished Career Ends in Honour
General Musa, a proud indigene of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Southern Kaduna, officially retired on October 25 after an illustrious military career spanning decades. His tenure as CDS, the MBF noted, was marked by strategic leadership, humility, and an unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity amid complex security challenges.
“General Musa’s service to Nigeria stands as a profound testimony to discipline, professionalism, and loyalty to the nation,” said Luka Binniyat, spokesman of the MBF, in a statement issued on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
According to Binniyat, the retired CDS would be remembered for his efforts in promoting unity among the armed forces and improving troop morale during some of Nigeria’s most trying moments. “His courage and humility earned him the admiration of his officers and men, as well as Nigerians across divides,” the MBF said.
Gratitude to President Tinubu
The Forum expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing General Musa the opportunity to serve as Chief of Defence Staff — a role the group described as both “rare and exalted.”
“We are confident that the President will continue to draw from General Musa’s deep reservoir of experience and patriotism in future national defence-related roles,” Binniyat added.
The MBF’s message comes amid widespread praise for General Musa’s leadership style, which emphasized inter-agency cooperation, counterterrorism reforms, and joint operational planning across Nigeria’s military branches.
A New Chapter: Major General Waidi Shaibu Steps In
In the same statement, the Middle Belt Forum extended warm congratulations to Major General Waidi Shaibu, an indigene of Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, on his elevation as the new Chief of Army Staff.
Describing him as an “illustrious son of the Middle Belt,” the Forum highlighted Shaibu’s “distinguished reputation as a courageous commander and astute strategist.”
Shaibu’s recent postings, including his role as Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai in the North-East and his leadership of anti-banditry operations in the North-West, were cited as examples of his exceptional service record.
According to the MBF, General Shaibu’s emphasis on intelligence-led warfare, troop welfare, and civil-military collaboration has already strengthened Nigeria’s counterterrorism framework.
“We urge General Shaibu to carry out his new responsibilities with dedication, fairness, and renewed patriotism as the nation looks to him and his team for stability and peace,” the Forum said.
Call for Unity Among Service Chiefs
The Middle Belt Forum also congratulated all newly appointed Service Chiefs, urging them to work harmoniously to address Nigeria’s multifaceted security challenges.
The Forum prayed for “divine wisdom and unity among them in the patriotic task of securing Nigeria,” reaffirming its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at restoring peace across the Middle Belt and other regions affected by insurgency and banditry.
A Proud Moment for the Middle Belt
For many in the Middle Belt, the appointments of Generals Musa and Shaibu symbolize renewed recognition of the region’s contributions to Nigeria’s defence and stability.
“Both men exemplify the resilience, intellect, and patriotism that define the Middle Belt spirit,” Binniyat concluded. “Their stories will continue to inspire a new generation of Nigerians who believe in serving their nation with honour.”
