A 47-year-old man, Josiah Peter, was severely beaten and injured by two suspected Fulani herders in Gong Village, Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
The incident occurred at about 1:42 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, near a maize farm along a footpath and motorcycle route in Gong Village, Mbar District.
According to the locals sources,Peter a native of Gong Village, was reportedly attacked by the two suspects, who beat him with a stick and repeatedly struck him on the head.
Despite sustaining severe injuries, the victim survived the attack and was rushed to Bokkos Cottage Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The sources who plead anonymity further said Peter was still onconscious and able to speak when he was brought to the hospital, but his condition later deteriorated and he became unable to speak, although he remained breathing.
Security personnel stationed in Mbar District were reportedly informed of the incident.
The Rainbow Commander said operatives in Mbar had been contacted to advise residents against moving alone, particularly while travelling towards farms or using isolated footpaths.
The warning comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of Bokkos, where residents have continued to face threats while accessing their farms and moving through remote communities.
As of the time of filing this report, the situation in the Mbar area was said to be calm.
The circumstances surrounding the attack, including the identity and whereabouts of the alleged attackers, could not be independently verified at the time of publication.
