The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited Khalifa Pasali, over his recent comments on proposed Hisbah activities in Plateau State.
Pasali confirmed the invitation on Monday, August 31, 2026, amid growing controversy over reported plans to establish or operate Hisbah-related activities in parts of the state.
The invitation comes a day after the Plateau State Government declared unauthorised Hisbah activities illegal and directed security agencies to identify, investigate and prosecute persons involved in such operations.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang had warned that no individual or group had the authority to assume powers not conferred on it by law, stressing that Plateau State has one Constitution, one legal system and one legitimate authority.
Pasali, who confirmed his invitation by the DSS, said the development would not silence him or prevent him from expressing his views on issues affecting Plateau State and Nigeria.
He maintained that citizens have a right to participate in discussions on matters of public interest, while stressing the need for responsible engagement and constructive dialogue.
Details of the DSS invitation, including the specific issues raised during the engagement, were not immediately made public.
The development has further intensified public attention on the Hisbah controversy in Plateau, with government authorities insisting that no group will be permitted to operate as a parallel authority or impose rules on residents outside the established legal framework.
The Plateau State Government has also maintained that its position is not directed against any religion, ethnic group or community, but against any activity considered unlawful or unauthorised under Nigerian law.
