The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for parties to submit governorship and Assembly candidates for the 2027 elections.
The Commission announced the extension in a statement signed by National Commissioner Mohammed Kudu Haruna on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
According to INEC, the deadline for political parties to upload their lists of candidates for the February 2027 Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections has been moved from Saturday, August 8, to Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The Commission said the extension followed appeals from political parties seeking additional time to complete the submission process through its dedicated online portal.
In a related development, INEC announced that the window for voters who applied to replace lost, damaged or defaced Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to download copies of their replacement cards would close at midnight on Sunday, August 9.
The deadline, the Commission explained, would enable it to compile final statistics on downloaded PVCs ahead of the August 15 Osun State Governorship Election.
PVC collection in Osun began at Registration Area level on July 22 and was initially scheduled to end on July 28. INEC later extended the exercise to July 31 following complaints about overcrowding and difficulties at collection centres.
Collection subsequently moved to the Local Government Area level from August 1 to August 7.
INEC also confirmed that replacement downloadable PVCs had been made available to voters in Odo-Otin and Ife Central Local Government Areas after hoodlums reportedly invaded two collection centres and carted away voters’ cards.
The electoral commission, however, assured affected voters that the stolen PVCs cannot be used to vote.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election in Osun State on August 15, 2026.
