Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu has approved the deployment of new Commissioners of Police to state commands and strategic formations nationwide.
The Nigeria Police Force announced the deployments in a statement issued by its Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, following approval of the IGP’s recommendations by the Police Service Commission.
The deployment includes CP Ayodeji Faniyan, fdc, as the new Commissioner of Police in Plateau State.
Other state commands affected are Abia, where CP Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo was deployed; Bayelsa, CP Saka Adewale Ajao; Cross River, CP Ajo Geofrey Ordue; Anambra, CP Nanna Oji Ama; Edo, CP Patrick Daaor; Jigawa, CP Tani Murtala; and Delta, CP Samuel Erale.
The Force said the postings were aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness, improving leadership across commands and formations, and consolidating ongoing reforms and repositioning within the Nigeria Police Force.
Faniyan’s deployment to Plateau comes as the state continues to face security challenges requiring intelligence-led policing, effective coordination among security agencies and stronger engagement with communities.
Beyond the state commands, the IGP also approved deployments to several strategic formations, including the Force Intelligence Department, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Counter Terrorism Unit, Department of Training and Development and Police Staff College, Jos.
Among the officers deployed to strategic formations are CP Yemi John Oyeniyi as Commissioner of Police, Intelligence and Training, Force Intelligence Department, Abuja; CP Charles Ezekwesiri Dike as CP INTERPOL, FCID, Abuja; and CP Taiwo A. Adedeji as CP Counter Terrorism Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
CP Mohammed Hassan Ahmed was deployed as Deputy Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos, while other senior officers were assigned to formations covering intelligence, investigation, anti-human trafficking, finance, administration, training, welfare and anti-fraud operations.
Disu charged the affected officers to deploy their experience to strengthen intelligence-led policing, improve operational effectiveness and promote professionalism in their respective formations.
He also urged them to deepen community engagement while safeguarding lives and property and maintaining high standards of discipline, accountability and service delivery.
The Force said the latest postings formed part of its broader reform strategy to improve operational efficiency, strengthen internal capacity and enhance policing services across the country.
