At least one person has been confirmed killed and six others injured when gunmen suspected to be Fulani terrorists attacked communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State Nigeria’s Middle Belt, leaving residents in fear and panic.
The attacks occurred on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th August 2026 respectively in Jwakmaitumbi and Murish communities after residents had earlier raised an alert over the movement of suspected attackers around Mairana and Jakatai.
Residents said the attackers launched a heavy assault on Jwakmaitumbi, while Murish was also attacked, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to six others.
According to a resident who plead for anonymity says four of the injured victims are receiving treatment at Nanret Clinic, while another is being treated at Hope Clinic in Mangu.
The attacks reportedly came after natives in Jakatai attempted to defend themselves following an earlier alert about the movement of the gunmen.
The motive for the attacks remains unclear, while residents have continued to remain vigilant amid fears of further attacks.
