Accident has claimed the lives of seven journalists in Gombe State, following a tire burst on their return from a colleague’s wedding.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) bus was transporting the group from Kaltungo when the incident occurred near Kumo town. The vehicle spiraled off the road into bushes after the tire failure.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Samson Kaura, and government spokesperson Ismaila Misilli confirmed the seven fatalities. Four other passengers sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.
The deceased include prominent media professionals: Zarah Umar (SSA to the Governor), Manu Haruna Kwami (NTA), Isa Lawan (NTA), Musa Tabra (retired), Aminu Adamu (Driver), Adams Danladi (StarTimes), and Judith Kutus (SUBEB).
Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed profound grief, calling the loss deeply painful. “We have lost colleagues, partners in progress, and devoted public servants,” he stated, pledging full support for the injured and bereaved families.
The bodies have been moved to a Gombe morgue as the state mourns the devastating loss.
