At least two persons including a community leader and a female resident, have been killed in separate attacks by suspected armed Fulani terrorists in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
The first victim was ambushed and shot dead while returning home on Sunday evening June 28th 2026 and another dying from gunshot wounds sustained during an earlier attack on her village.
The victims were identified as Daniel Pulle, 58, Community Leader of Gana-Ropp in Ropp District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, and Deborah Benjamin Kak of Lwa village in Bachi District of Riyom Local Government Area.
According to information released by the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), Pulle was attacked at about 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, while riding his motorcycle home. Gunmen reportedly lying in wait near a bridge linking Gana-Ropp community opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.
In the second incident, Kak died on Sunday June 28th 2026 at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where she had been receiving treatment after being shot during an attack on her residence in Lwa village on June 26, 2026.
The deaths were confirmed in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of BYM, Rwang Tengwong, who blamed armed Fulani terrorists for the attacks and described the incidents as part of a continuing pattern of violence targeting rural communities in Plateau State.
Residents said the killing of Pulle has thrown Gana-Ropp into mourning, with community members describing him as a respected leader who played an active role in local affairs and conflict-resolution efforts.
The latest attacks come amid growing concerns over recurring violence in Plateau’s rural communities, where residents have repeatedly called for stronger security measures to protect lives and property.
Security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incidents as of the time of filing this report.
