At least two Christian youths have been killed by Fulani Ethnic Militias following a midnight attack on Pwomol Village in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria Middle belt while one suspected attacker was apprehended alive.
The attack which occurred around midnight, is the second assault on the Heipang community within one week. According to reports, the victims were members of a local vigilante group keeping watch when armed assailants invaded the area.
One other resident sustained critical injuries during the incident and is currently receiving medical treatment.
In the course of the attack, a suspect identified as Suleiman, said to be from Fass community in Riyom Local Government Area, was arrested at about 1:00 a.m. The suspect was reportedly apprehended around the Redemption Camp area between Heipang and Kassa, with blood stains found on his body.
He is currently in the custody of security operatives at Sector 4 in Barkin Ladi. Reacting to the incident, the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation and ensure that the suspect is brought to justice without delay.
The association, led by its National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, also urged authorities to extract useful information from the suspect that could lead to the arrest of other perpetrators and their collaborators.
BYM commended the swift intervention of the Special Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, and called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of lives and the pursuit of justice for victims of violent attacks across Berom land and beyond.
