Fulani militants on Wednesday ambushed a group of travelers returning from a mining site in Gwolhoss-Byei Riyom Local Government Area, killing atleast one Christians and injuring two others.
The attack occurred at about 4:15 p.m. on April 8, 2026, as the victims were heading towards Nding Fan District.
The Chairman of BECO Fan District, Mr. Joshua Bot, who confirmed the incident, identified the deceased as Mr.Christopher Joshua a native of Nding Sesut.
He said two other victims, Alfred Dung and Nathaniel Bitrus, sustained injuries during the ambush and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Bot described the incident as unfortunate and called on residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious amid rising insecurity in the area.
“We urge everyone to stay alert and prioritize their safety as these are challenging times,” he said.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents reported in parts of Riyom Local Government Area, raising renewed concerns over the safety of miners,commuters and residents in the region.
Security agencies are yet to release an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
