Nigeria defeated Egypt 4-2 on penalties at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca on Saturday 17th January 2026 to clinch third place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Super Eagles secured the bronze medal after a goalless draw in regulation time, showing resilience to triumph in the shootout and end their tournament on a high spirit.
The third-place playoff was a tightly contested affair, with both sides creating chances but failing to find a breakthrough. Nigeria held their nerve from the spot to claim the victory.
This result comes after Nigeria’s semifinal exit against hosts Morocco, which also ended in a penalty shootout defeat following extra time.
