The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Plateau State University, Bokkos chapter (ASUU-PLASU), has declared an indefinite strike over six unresolved demands.
The union announced the industrial action after its Congress meeting on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university administration on August 11.
In a statement signed by the ASUU-PLASU Chairperson, Comrade Vincent D. Choji, and Secretary, Comrade Lomka Iliya Kopdiya, the union said the decision was taken in line with a directive from the National Executive Council of ASUU.
According to the union, its charter of demands remained unresolved despite the expiration of the ultimatum, leaving Congress with no option but to commence a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike.
One of the key demands is the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme, which the union said had yet to be addressed by the university administration.
ASUU-PLASU is also demanding the full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU Agreement, including the payment of outstanding arrears dating back to January 1, 2026.
The union further called for the provision of safe and secure staff quarters and the construction of trenches around the university’s perimeter fence.
It also accused the university administration of intimidating union leaders, citing a letter issued to Congress by the Registrar on May 18, 2026.
Another demand is the payment of 22 months’ arrears of the 25 per cent/35 per cent wage award, which the union said remains outstanding.
ASUU-PLASU maintained that none of the six demands had been satisfactorily addressed despite the 14-day ultimatum given to the university administration.
“Congress has therefore with the approval of NEC resolved to proceed on a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike action,” the statement said.
The union consequently directed all its members to suspend academic activities with immediate effect and remain on strike until further notice.
