At least seven Christians have been killed in a night-time attack on Gero community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria’s Middle Belt, hours after a video showing Muslims youths chanting for weapons to kill Christians in Jos and Enugu emerged online.
The attack occurred at about 10:20 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, when gunmen suspected to be Fulani terrorists reportedly stormed the community and opened fire on residents.
Residents said two of the victims were Igbo men killed in their shops, while others were attacked at a local restaurant where food was being prepared.
A community member, Bot Silas, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said the attackers’ sudden arrival triggered panic and forced residents to flee for safety.
He said seven people were killed during the attack, adding that the gunmen fired sporadically across the community.
The killings came hours after a video circulated on social media showing Muslims youths Movement chanting for AK-47 rifles to attack Christians in Jos, Plateau State Capital, and Enugu State.
The video has raised concerns over threats by Muslims against Christians with the Nigerian government keeping a blind eye about it.
Reacting to the killings, the spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, condemned the attack and called on security agencies to strengthen protection for vulnerable communities.
Tengwong described the killing of innocent people in Georo as unacceptable and urged authorities to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
He also called for measures to enable residents to conduct their daily activities without fear of further attacks.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement from security agencies on the attack had been included in the available information.
