Miango, Plateau State — The Miango Youth Development Association (MYDA) on Sunday, April 26, 2026, held a handover ceremony in which the outgoing leadership reviewed six years of activities and formally passed the affairs of the association to a new executive council.

The outgoing chairman, Nuhu Yakubu Chayi, said the association recorded notable progress during his two-term tenure, which ran from April 26, 2020, to April 26, 2026, despite what he described as difficult security and socio-economic conditions in the area.
He said the association placed priority on security, community rebuilding, youth empowerment, education, and unity among residents of Miango and surrounding communities.
According to him, MYDA worked with community leaders and security agencies to improve safety and promote peace in the area, especially at a time when repeated attacks in some communities affected normal life and slowed development.
He said the association also supported the rebuilding of communities affected by attacks, including Nkiendowro, Ancha, Hukke, and Jebbu, through the mobilisation of resources and encouragement for displaced families to return and rebuild their lives.
Chayi said the association established palliative farms in Rotsu, Hukke, and Kpachudu to support food supply and help displaced families engage in farming activities.
He added that MYDA organised annual football tournaments to bring young people together, encourage teamwork and reduce social tension, while also supporting civic participation by helping displaced residents register for Permanent Voter Cards.

The outgoing chairman said the association also established MYDA MULTI-BIZ LTD as part of its economic empowerment drive and procured a grinding machine to support local economic activities, particularly for women and other community members who depend on small-scale processing for income.
Other achievements listed by the outgoing leadership included annual Independence Day celebrations for primary and secondary schools in Miango, New Year celebrations, prayer programmes for peace and progress, and the creation of a membership database to improve communication and coordination.
He said MYDA also built partnerships with organisations and individuals, completed the fencing of LEA Primary School Chinye, secured registration with the local government, registered an official SIM card for the association, and launched its maiden history book.
Chayi said the association was handing over documents, financial records, equipment, and other items in its custody, including an office space at the MYDA secretariat now being used by the Christian Faith Institute for skill acquisition activities such as tailoring and computer training. He also listed a parcel of land at Zharuvo donated by Mr William Bode for the construction of shops, building materials, and the grinding machine among the items being handed over.
He said a total of N1,000,149.93 was transferred to the new administration.
However, he noted that insecurity remained one of the major challenges confronting the community, saying frequent attacks, fear of violence, and destruction of farms slowed development and affected the livelihood of many families.
He also listed youth indiscipline, laziness, drug abuse, night parties, poor school enrolment, and low participation of girls in education as some of the social challenges the outgoing executive had to contend with during its tenure.
In his inaugural speech, Sunday Dilas Gado, who emerged as the new chairman of the association, said his administration would build on the achievements of the outgoing leadership and strengthen unity among youths in Miango.
Gado said leadership was a call to service, adding that the new executive would prioritise youth unity and peace building, empowerment and skills development, community development, education, and security.
He said the association would work to revive adult education programmes, encourage youths and adults who missed formal education to return to learning, and support school debates, quiz competitions, and inter-school programmes within Miango.
The new chairman also said the association would partner with elders, stakeholders, and relevant organisations to advance development projects and ensure that youths play active roles in peace and security efforts.
The newly inaugurated executive members are Sunday Dilas Gado, chairman; Rochas Isaiah Nkie, vice chairman; Keffas Ahmadu, secretary; Sunday Barry Mose, assistant secretary; Barry Bobo Sunday, financial secretary; Rose Usman, treasurer; Agara Weyi, publicity secretary; Emmanuel John Kure, assistant publicity secretary; Bari Moses John, welfare officer; Abednego Saijee Williams, organising secretary; Danjuma John Telle, director of socials; Amuntu Giwa Tegwi, director of sport; and Friday James Kunde, provost.
Gado urged youths in the community to support the new administration with ideas and cooperation, while calling on elders and stakeholders to continue to provide guidance and prayers.
He said the administration would operate with transparency, accountability, and teamwork, adding that the future of the community depended on collective effort.
The handover ceremony ended with renewed appeals for unity, peace, and development in Miango.
