In an interview published on Thursday 8th January 2025, President Donald Trump stated that the United States could conduct additional military strikes in Nigeria if violence against Christian communities continues.
The remarks, made to The New York Times, follow a U.S. military operation in northwestern Nigeria on Christmas Day. The Pentagon described that strike as targeting Islamic State militants and conducted at the request of the Nigerian government. Nigerian authorities confirmed it was a joint counter-terrorism operation, emphasizing it was not religiously motivated.
“I’d love to make it a one-time strike … But if they continue to kill Christians, it will be a many-time strike,” Trump was quoted as saying.
When questioned about assessments that extremist groups like Islamic State and Boko Haram kill more Muslims than Christians, Trump acknowledged Muslims are also victims but maintained that “it’s mostly Christians.”
This warning amplifies comments Trump made in late October, where he described Christianity facing an “existential threat” in Nigeria and threatened intervention over what he characterized as the government’s failure to protect Christian communities.
The Nigerian government has consistently rejected claims of systematic religious persecution. Officials assert that the nation’s severe security challenges—including insurgency, banditry, and kidnappings—are driven by terrorism and criminality, not religion, and that both Muslims and Christians are victims.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, has a population roughly divided between Christians, predominantly in the south, and Muslims, concentrated in the north. While seeking cooperation with the U.S. on security, Nigerian leadership has objected to framing the conflict as primarily anti-Christian.
The truth remains that there is Christian Genocide affecting Nigeria’s middle belt with the Nigerian Government denial and keeping a blind eye to it, Nigeria citizens can’t wait for the next Air Strike as the killings of Christians continues.
In January 2026 alone, atleast 48 Christians have been killed by Fulani Ethnic Militia just for their faith in Jesus Christ and also with the aim of land grabbing their ancestral homes.
