Two Youths Killed in Barkin Ladi Ambush After Security Meeting

By Palang Paul

Two young men were killed and six others injured on Wednesday evening when suspected Fulani Militias ambushed them while returning from a security meeting in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The victims were attacked around 7:30 p.m. along the Barkin Ladi–Dorowa Babuje road, in an incident that has reignited fear in the area after a period of relative calm.

Confirming the attack, the National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Solomon Dalyop, described the killings as “senseless and unprovoked.” He explained that the victims, mostly community youth leaders, had attended a meeting convened by the Sector Four Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) before they were ambushed on their way home.

“Two of our people were killed and six injured. The corpses are currently at the Barkin Ladi General Hospital,” Dalyop said.

He alleged that the attack might be linked to a recent claim by the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Babayo, who accused Berom youths of killing a 13-year-old herder and several cows earlier in the week. Dalyop suggested that the allegation could have been used as a pretext for renewed violence in the area.

Dalyop urged security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly and prevent further attacks on the communities.
