Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have successfully repelled an ambush by armed bandits and rescued a kidnapped victim during a coordinated counter-crime operation in Kogi State.
The operation was conducted in the early hours of November 25 along the Oshokoshoko–Obajana corridor in Lokoja Local Government Area—an increasingly targeted route for abductions and bandit movement.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the brigade, the mission followed credible intelligence indicating that a group of bandits was moving through the corridor with abducted persons.
Troops deployed from the Kabba Patrol Base, in collaboration with other hybrid security forces, launched a deliberate ambush to intercept the armed gang. When contact was made, the bandits reportedly opened fire but were overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower.
One of the attackers was neutralised, while others fled with injuries. During the subsequent search of the area, the soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle and successfully rescued one kidnapped victim who was found weak and in distress. The individual was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment.
The military has intensified pursuit operations to track down the fleeing members of the gang.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal networks across Kogi State, urging residents to continue supporting security operations with timely, actionable information.
