Suspected thugs reportedly blocked Peter Obi’s convoy as he attempted to enter Benue State, according to videos and claims by his photographer, Esther Umoh.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, along Gboko Road, shortly after Obi and his team arrived in the state from the airport.
Videos shared by Umoh showed a group of people, some allegedly carrying sticks, blocking the road as Obi’s convoy attempted to make its way into town.
According to the photographer, the road was the only route available from the airport into town when the incident occurred.
“This is Gboko Road; the entire road is blocked. We just touched down, and this is the only road from the airport into town,” Umoh said in one of the videos.
She alleged that the mob prevented Obi from entering the town to meet people he had planned to see.
“They said Peter Obi is not coming into the town to see the people he wanted to see,” she added.
The footage also appeared to show some members of the group pursuing the convoy as it attempted to proceed along the road.
Umoh condemned the incident, saying political activities should be conducted peacefully despite differences among political parties and supporters.
“This is not acceptable. We should be able to do politics without going this low,” she said.
The reported incident comes amid increased political mobilisation and engagements by political parties across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no independent confirmation of the identities or affiliations of those who allegedly blocked the convoy, while no official response from the Benue State Government or security agencies was included in the account.
