A Plateau youth leader was shot by suspected armed Fulani Ethnic Militias a day after granting a media interview condemning the killing of two youths in his community.
The incident occurred on Wednesday 22nd July 2026 in Dorowa Babuje, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, according to local sources.
The victim, Pam Fom, President of the Dorowa Babuje Youth Council, was reportedly ambushed while travelling to a neighbouring community after speaking publicly about Tuesday’s attack on Dorowa, where two youths were killed.
Masara Kim, who interviewed Fom before the shooting, said the youth leader was attacked shortly after calling on government and security agencies to strengthen protection for residents.
According to the journalist, Fom explained during the interview that the attackers allegedly concealed themselves among grazing cattle before targeting two young men riding a motorcycle. He added that the gunmen later stormed a nearby mining site and opened fire, injuring several miners.
Fom warned that continued attacks without adequate security could leave residents with little option but to defend themselves if authorities failed to protect the community.
“Yesterday I interviewed this youth leader after two members of his community were killed, and today he was shot,” Masara wrote in a Facebook post announcing the incident.
Another community leader, Titus Badung, also confirmed the attack, describing it as coming barely a day after Fom spoke publicly about the killings that had thrown the community into mourning.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not issued an official statement on the attack or disclosed the condition of the injured youth leader.
