Plateau State University, Bokkos has appointed two female Deputy Vice-Chancellors, becoming the second Nigerian university after the University of Ibadan to have two women occupying the positions simultaneously.
The university’s Senate approved the appointments at its 106th Special Meeting held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, with Associate Professor Keziah Ayuba appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, and Associate Professor Martha Niri Choji appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic.
The meeting was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best.
According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Masara Kim, the appointments followed the expiration of the tenures of the former DVCs and were made after nominations by the Vice-Chancellor in accordance with Section 5 of the First Schedule of the Plateau State University Law.
The Senate unanimously approved the nominations.
Ayuba, who previously served as DVC Administration for two years, was re-appointed for a second two-year term, while Choji was appointed for her first term, replacing Professor Moses P. Galadima, who served two terms as DVC Academic from 2022.
The development places Plateau State University alongside the University of Ibadan, which became the first Nigerian university to have two female Deputy Vice-Chancellors simultaneously in November 2021.
Choji has previously served the university as Head of the Department of Mathematics, Head of the Remedial Science Programme and Head of the newly established Department of Statistics.
Speaking on the appointments, Vice-Chancellor Professor Best said the nominations reflected his administration’s commitment to equity, inclusivity and merit.
He urged the newly appointed DVCs to immediately settle into their new responsibilities, stressing that the university had pressing academic priorities ahead.
“We have a lot to catch up on. We are due for accreditation of 11 programmes and are also commencing the new academic session,” Best said.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the outgoing DVC Academic, Professor Galadima, for his contribution to the university, particularly in academic programme accreditation, examinations, postgraduate programmes and the digitisation of students’ registration and transcript processes.
Responding on behalf of the two appointees, Ayuba thanked the Senate and the Vice-Chancellor for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to support the administration’s vision.
“Together as a team, all things are possible,” she said.
