The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University (PLASU) branch, has suspended its strike after reaching an agreement with the Plateau State Government on the union’s six-point demands.
The decision was taken at an emergency congress meeting held in Jos on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, following a review of the issues that prompted the industrial action on August 26.
In a statement signed by the branch Chairperson, Dr. Vincent D. Choji, and Secretary, Dr. Lomka Iliya Kopdiya, ASUU said the suspension followed an agreement reached between the government and union negotiation teams.
The government negotiating team was led by the Head of Service, Mr. Steven Pam Gadong, while the union’s team was headed by the Zonal Coordinator, Professor Aku Timothy Namo.
According to the union, the negotiations were held at the Conference Hall of the Head of Service, where both parties reached what it described as a “reasonable conclusion” on the six-point charter of demands.
The demands include the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme, full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and payment of arrears from January 2026.
Others are the provision of safe and secure staff quarters, construction of trenches around the university’s perimeter fence, and an end to the alleged intimidation of union leaders.
The union also demanded payment of 22 months’ arrears of the 25/35 percent wage award.
Following its review of the agreement, the congress resolved to suspend the strike effective from 12:00 midnight on September 16, 2026.
ASUU consequently directed its members to resume all academic activities at PLASU.
The union thanked members of the public for their understanding and support during the industrial action.
