The Plateau State Government has ordered a strict clampdown on road blockages and reprisals following a wave of violence along the Mangu–Sabon Gari Road, warning that perpetrators will face prosecution.
In a press statement issued on May 5th 2026, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, condemned the May 1st incident in which individuals blocked the road and attacked commuters, describing the actions as unacceptable and a threat to public peace.
The government acknowledged rising tension after the April 30th 2026 killings in Sabon Gari but stressed that “no grievance justifies attacking innocent people or disturbing public order.”
Authorities have now directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute all those involved in both the April 30th killings and the subsequent May 1st disturbances, signaling a firm stance against impunity.
The statement also conveyed condolences to families of victims and sympathized with affected communities, while commending the role of Operation Enduring Peace and other security agencies for swiftly restoring calm.
Special recognition was given to the Ngolong Ngas, Nde Jika Golit, for his restraint and cooperation despite being affected during the unrest.
The government further called on community, religious, and political leaders to de-escalate tensions and urged citizens to pursue grievances through lawful means, assuring that it remains open to dialogue.
It warned that anyone inciting violence or engaging in road blockages as a form of reprisal would “face the full weight of the law.”
Residents across Plateau State have been urged to remain calm and support ongoing efforts to sustain peace and security.
