The Plateau State Government has condemned the deadly attack reported in Kassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, assuring motorists that the Jos-Barkin Ladi highway remains open and safe for passage.
The government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, mni, on Thursday, September 25, 2026, described the attack reported a day earlier as “deeply regrettable and unacceptable.”
According to the statement, the September 24 attack resulted in the loss of lives, prompting security agencies to begin efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible and prevent further attacks.
The government commiserated with the families of the victims and acknowledged the grief expressed by affected families and communities.
It, however, urged residents to maintain peace and avoid blocking the highway, warning that road blockades could put travellers at risk.
“Government wishes to assure travellers that the road is clear and open to motorists and other road users,” the statement said.
It urged residents to continue their lawful activities without fear while remaining vigilant and cooperating with security agencies.
The government also called on traditional, religious and community leaders to support efforts to prevent further escalation and maintain calm in Kassa, Barkin Ladi and other vulnerable communities.
It reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to working with security agencies and local communities to strengthen security and promote sustainable peace across Plateau State.
