The Plateau State Government has rejected claims linking Governor Caleb Mutfwang to the ₦10.11 billion travel expenditure recorded between January and June 2026.
The government made the clarification on Friday 28th August 2026 in Jos through the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, following a recent analysis of the state’s expenditure.
Ramnap said the ₦10.11 billion figure was the combined expenditure of the entire Plateau State public service and not money spent by the governor or Government House.
She explained that the figure covered travel, transportation and related expenses incurred by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), tertiary institutions, the Judiciary and the Plateau State House of Assembly during the six-month period.
According to her, the expenditure included statutory obligations, personnel-related entitlements, training and retraining of public servants, as well as activities of the state’s Muslim and Christian Pilgrims Welfare Boards.
The commissioner said major components of the spending included the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, leave passage entitlements for public servants and training-related travels undertaken by various MDAs.
She added that the expenditure also covered overseas training for lecturers of Plateau State University, judiciary-related travels and approved official trips by members of the state House of Assembly.
Ramnap further disclosed that the state sponsored 200 students for scholarship programmes in India, provided medical assistance to citizens abroad and funded other approved official engagements during the period.
She said the administration deliberately prioritised training and retraining of public servants to address manpower shortages, improve institutional capacity and strengthen service delivery across the state.
Clarifying the governor’s own foreign travels, Ramnap said Mutfwang made only three international trips between January and June 2026.
She said Mutfwang travelled to the United States in January following an invitation to attend the Presidential Prayer Breakfast, before travelling to the United Kingdom in March as part of President Bola Tinubu’s delegation.
According to her, the governor made his third international trip to the United Kingdom in June to participate in an international dialogue on multi-faith coexistence.
Ramnap said the governor used the international engagements to seek partnerships and investment opportunities in tourism and other critical sectors that could expand economic opportunities and strengthen Plateau’s development prospects.
The commissioner maintained that the state government remained committed to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public funds.
She assured citizens that the administration would continue to provide accurate and verifiable information on government expenditure and ensure that public resources were deployed towards measurable development outcomes.
