The Plateau State House of Assembly has passed a bill to provide funding and other support for approved faith-based health institutions across the state.

The bill, titled A Bill for a Law to Provide Funds and Other Supports to Approved Faith-Based Health Institutions in Plateau State and Other Matters Related Thereto, 2024, was passed during plenary as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery through collaboration with faith-based medical providers.

Presenting the report of the House Committee on Health, Deputy Chairman of the Committee and member representing Langtang North Central Constituency, Nanbol Listick, who stood in for the committee chairman, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Sanda, said the bill was referred to the committee on March 5, 2025, for detailed legislative scrutiny.

Listick said the committee subjected the proposed legislation to extensive review and held a public hearing on August 22, 2025, where stakeholders from the health sector and other interested groups made submissions that shaped the final report.

According to him, the legislation is designed to strengthen healthcare services by supporting approved faith-based health institutions, particularly those serving rural and underserved communities across Plateau State.

He said the bill would help bridge gaps in access to quality healthcare, promote holistic patient care by integrating spiritual support into health services, and provide a stronger regulatory framework for faith-based medical institutions operating in the state.

Lawmakers said the passage of the bill represents a significant step toward expanding access to affordable healthcare while deepening the partnership between the Plateau State Government and faith-based health providers in improving public health outcomes.
